BALTIMORE – No. 17 South Carolina State pitched a shutout, held the MEAC's leading rusher Devan James in check, and cruised against the No. 1 ranked defense in the Football Championship Series.

Dewain Clark threw a pair of touchdown passes and South Carolina State defeated Morgan State 32-0 on a rainy Saturday at Hughes Stadium. The win helped the Bulldogs solidify its first Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference championship since 2004, and the school's first outright conference title since 1994.

Morgan State had a dreadful day on offense as the Bears suffered its second consecutive loss and fell to 6-5 overall and 4-3 in the conference.  The Bears were shutout for the second time this season (at Rutgers 38-0), and the last time they were blanked at Hughes Stadium was in 1998 against South Carolina State (21-0).

The Bulldogs turned in a dominant performance in all three phases of the game, offense, defense and special teams.

Clark completed 11-of-21 passes for 124 yards and two touchdowns for the Bulldogs (9-2, 7-0), and William Ford rushed for 97 yards on 12 carries.

The Bears were limited to only 133 yards on 58 plays, Morgan State's second worst offensive performance of the season. Meanwhile, the Bulldogs offense posted 339 total yards and garnered 215 yards on the ground.

South Carolina State took the lead on a 61-yard punt return by Phillip Adams, then extended it to 12-0 when Clark hit Morris on a 3-yard pass with 11:34 left in the first half.

The Bulldogs extended the lead to 18-0 at halftime on Travil Jamison's 1-yard run.

Morgan State had only two first downs in the first half.

South Carolina State lit up the scoreboard shortly after the halftime intermission.

On the second play of the third quarter, Morris scored on a 37-yard screen pass and Markus James scored on a 39-yard interception.

Morgan State's offense was led throughout most of the contest by senior signal-caller Jeremy Glover. Glover went 8-for-20 for 50 yards and threw three interceptions, while backup Mario Melton was 0-for-2, including an interception late in the fourth quarter.

James, pitted against the MEAC's second ranked defense, finished the game with 22 carries for 79 yards.

Morgan State will play Hampton in the season finale next Saturday at Hughes Stadium. The Bears will attempt to finish with their first winning season since 2003.
